Computers are no stranger to the modern world, in fact, they are practically a necessity. Virtually every business and every service people use on a daily basis has a website, tracks their sales on computers, or is made possible through computers. The world would not be the same today without them. You will be informed of the progression of computers over time, the people that made them, and the companies that made them possible. Bill Gates is one of the reasons computers have become what they are. In 1955, Bill Gates was born in Seattle, Washington. He is the inventor of Microsoft and has been working with computers since he was 12 years old. He enrolled at Harvard University in 1973, only to drop out to start Micro-soft with Paul Allen. In 1975, Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Micro-soft. The name of the company was later changed to Microsoft in 1976, just a year later.

Steve Jobs was born in 1955 as well, and he is the inventor of Apple. He started Apple in 1976 with Steve Wozniak. By 1977, only a year after Apple was founded, Apple II, the first mass-produced personal computing unit, was released. In 1983, “Apple releases Lisa I, the first computer with graphics user interface and first mouse.” Although Apple’s first computers were iconic, in 1984 the wildly popular Macintosh was released. The Macintosh computer was the first computer including a mouse and an integrated graphical user interface. Sadly Steve Jobs died of cancer in 2011 at age 56 (Apple Museum, Apple History). Currently, Tim Cook is the CEO of Apple. As you can see, computers have changed vastly over time to meet the needs of the consumer. These are the cornerstones that have helped build the fast-processing computers that we have access to
