People work for the government, local rescues, Congress, education, local rescues, and people even work our safety and protection for our nation. On September 11, 2001, George W. Bush made an astonishing speech about the evil that happened that day. Terrorists attacked the nation, and they killed thousands of people.
George W. Bush has become notorious for being a poor orator. Many of his critics have bashed him for his verbal mistakes and for his choice of wording. He was even criticized for not speaking to the nation soon enough after the terrorist attacks on September 11. However, on September 14, President Bush arrived to the devastated site of the World Trade Center and then walked between the piles of rubble. He talked with volunteers, firefighters, and police officersAnd to persistent chants of "USA! USA!" from the crowds of workers; Bush took hold of a bullhorn and climbed atop a small pile of rubble and put his arm around a fire fighter.

The topic of homosexuality in Tom Hanks speech is one of great division among the people of our country, especially at the time he chose to bring attention to it, yet his use of rhetorical speaking, particularly Ethos and Pathos, assist to both mitigate and normalize a typically polarizing issue. The introduction to his speech features an immediate nod to emotion when he mentions love and his “lover”, or wife, saying “I could not be standing here without that undying love… And I have that in a lover that is so close to fine, we should all be able to experience such heaven right here on earth”. By introducing the concept of “love” as the preliminary subject before the actual meaning of the speech is made clear, a common connection is made between the audience, who includes both celebrities and the American public, that is necessary to establish due to the status that the speaker possesses. Because of this elevated status, Ethos emerges as a secondary rhetorical device that aids Tom in delivering his message.
Humans’ actions and thoughts are complex, many people spend their lives researching why people act in certain ways. In the TED Talk ‘Why we do what we do’, Tony Robbins, motivational speaker and life coach, helps people understand the reasons behind their actions in order to show how they can reach their full potential and use it to help and understand others. The rhetorical and speaking strategies used in his speech aided him in his effort to reach his audience. The ethos and pathos were very strong and bolstered his message, but his attempt at being logical did not improve the quality of his speech, and affected the extent his audience will take his message to heart.

Rhetoric is how we persuade people through our language and body movements. “Rhetoric helps us understand how political actors try to create agency by resituating an issue in time and space so as to realize their goals” (Martin 87). In the fallacies guidebook, this form of manipulation is covered by dirty trick #21; here is example of flattering the audience used by Paul and Elder (2012, p. 27): “It’s good talking to an audience of people with good old fashion common sense and real insights into our social problems.” In Trump’s speech he makes extremely similar comments, calling the Nashville and Tennessee Republicans hard workers and true patriots in the opening of his speech. Towards the end in his closing remarks, he further flatters the audience by saying that Tennessee is a great state where the progress of America will continue to speed ahead

Some attribute its success to Jobs’ personal influence and charisma – they do add significant weight to the speech, undeniably.
