Literature: Firebird, he lived for the sunshine by Brent McCorckle and Amy Parker
Level: Kindergarten
Theory: Children are very playful creatures and one way teachers can use this to their advantage (as well as their students) is to use this as part of learning. Children can create the books and context they are reading to show what they know. When children are acting out what they are reading, it puts the material into perspective and makes it relatable to them. They will also understand the words better, since they will be acting them out.

Thus, the better my ability to retell what I heard/read. The same goes for children, one of the first things they are taught when learning listening skills is retelling. When children can retell what happened in something they read, it shows their understanding of the material. Retelling is part of dramatic play, which is good for children to do when learning. For dramatic play to work out well, students must act out what they learned.
Instruction: Regarding the implementation of this lesson, the teacher will begin the lesson by doing an interactive read aloud with the students. Prior to the reading, the teacher should assess prior knowledge about the material to encourage comprehension. This will also help the teacher understand when to pause and discuss or continue reading. Throughout the reading, the teacher should pause at important points and point them out. For comprehension, it is vital that the teacher make sure students understand all parts of the book. Once the reading is completed, students can take turns using hand or finger puppets to retell the story from their perspective. Before the lesson, the teacher should make/draw cards of particular events in the book. Then, the teacher should conduct a second read aloud of the book. Once the teacher has an understanding of prior knowledge, he/she will begin reading the book aloud and stopping at chosen words. The teacher will demonstrate how to tap/clap for the sounds. Once the read aloud is completed, the teacher will have a list of words written on the board. They will call on different students to tap/clap the words. The teacher will use different length words and use words the students are familiar with. Teachers should encourage their students to try things independently and always make them feel as if they can do
