Strategic Plan Evaluation: Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Members of the healthcare industry have scrambled to develop strategic plans in alignment with new regulations and customer expectations as well as to define goals for sustainable business practices. According to Garberson (2015), a strategic plan involves developing collective foresight aimed at the organization’s future. In order to develop an innovative and tactical plan to guide a healthcare organization’s future endeavors, a myriad of characteristics must be evaluated, reinvented, and then acted upon. While strategic planning is not a new idea, the healthcare industry has encountered the need for new methodology to plan well for an uncertain climate. The purpose of this paper is to explore the 2015 Strategic Plan set by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and to evaluate the plan’s various attributes in relationship to elements studied in this course. Cincinnati Children’s hospital is a 600 bed, non-profit facility established in 1883 with an academic affiliation. According to McLaughlin and Milltello (2015), the ACA has operated under the premise of two main principles. The first principle is the encouragement of integration of care. The second principle is to harness costs while improving the delivery of quality care. In the past, healthcare leadership has been internally focused, attempting to manage financial concerns in an effort to keep the organization viable. However, the new trends in strategic thinking require management to look the entity of stakeholders to determine consumer needs and then to respond with internal changes to accommodate and meet those needs (McLaughlin & Milltello,
