These students have put a lot of effort and time in training for competitions in the games they play in addition to that they are obligated to keep up with their academicals. Most people think cheer is not a sport, but they are only half true. All-Star cheerleading is considered a sport because you have to compete against other teams, and travel to places as far as Europe or Asia. Sideline Cheer, however, does not compete and is not technically considered a sport. Depending on what type of cheerleading it is, cheer can be considered harder, and more dangerous than football and basketball. “In high school cheer or sideline, it can be a lot of waving pom poms and doing back tucks and front handsprings.
No matter how hard top high school basketball players try the nba never gives them attention anymore. Instead those same top players have to waste a year at college where they could get injury or just not get the same training and fall off just so they have a chance of getting drafted into the NBA. Before the NBA loved watching film of high school players and were able to enter the draft from Kobe Bryant to LeBron James and they went on to win championships. Top high school players should be able to enter the nba draft and play in the nba again. Most kids who are playing high school basketball have amazing talent but going to collage for a year, that talent can fade away.
All good things must come to an end. There will be a day, when an athlete has to stop playing ball. That transition to stop being an athlete, will be the toughest game they play. They must be prepared for the day they have to stop attending the workouts, meetings, and playing the games. Many student-athletes are depressed when they don’t make it to the pros.
About me: My name is Summer Hill, I am a Certified Athletic Therapist CAT(C) and hold a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (BHPE) degree. During my education, I was able to work with a variety of varsity athletes primarily with the St. Mary’s University Men’s Basketball team and the University of Calgary Dino’s Football Team. Working closely with the teams in the pre-season, in-season, and off-season managing injuries and providing support during their strength and conditioning. Working with athletes in the prevention, protection, and rehabilitation of both acute and chronic injuries.
While some believe that athletes should have their own choice at making a decision to go pro straight out of high school, they should not do so because they will not be able to manage their million dollar contracts respectively. Speaking of contracts, the NBA should eliminate guaranteed contracts for rookies drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. They should do this because a careless high school kid, could just go into the draft not knowing, or caring on how much they are going to make, with the lack of experience on handling millions of dollars. This is very unrepsonsibible for a teenager, and not only for the high school athlete, but also for the basketball association as well. This is because of there noncommitment to have these players
Last year, over 5,000 athletes had somebody else do their homework, and coaches encouraged it. Colleges generally spend 79 million dollars each year on sports, and even after The Syracuse Scandal and other academic frauds, the funding only continues to grow. Since the colleges pour large funds into the teams, the athletes often are able to cut corners in education. College sports are definitely a terrible investment for universities as they discourage education, drain university funds, and gives athletes unfair advantages over everyone else.
In today’s world, it is hard to ignore the amount of tremendous athletes that give us so much entertainment and hope. Many young children grow up hoping to play the same game as these talented people they’ve watched since they were young. One of the greatest sports to come to the surface is basketball, which holds many famous and inspiring people. Michael Jordan is thought to be one of the most talented basketball players of all time. His NBA debut was on October 26, 1984 to the Chicago Bulls in the first round.
Compensation for College Athletes With all the risks that college athletes take, the demanding schedule they have to work with, and the large sums of money that they make for the NCAA and their own schools, it’s time to stop exploiting the athletes and allow them to receive some of the profit that they are responsible for. College athletics are becoming increasingly popular in the US, football and basketball in particular. With more fans than ever the NCAA and individual colleges are receiving more and more revenue from their athletes. The NCAA makes hundreds of millions of dollars every year from college athletics.

It will do so by helping these individuals overcome the challenges of re-entering athletic programs after serving time in a correctional institution. The venture will do so by working to help the athletes increase educational attainment and strengthen their athletic abilities present- and post-incarceration. Also, it will work with the athletes to increase job readiness skills so they are prepared for the workforce if athletic careers do not include participating in college/professional sports. This venture is being created to address recidivism rates and increase human and social capital so these juvenile athletes can live successful lives and achieve any goals they have set; ensuring they re-enter society as productive citizens. What makes this social venture unique is that it is helping the athletes pursue their interest in sports but is giving the athletes a backup plan.
However, something as simple as playing a sport should be fun. If a student athlete is on a team where they have tried to get along with the other players but just can’t seem to connect, then switching teams or leaving that program is an option to consider. Students should never be pressured into playing a youth sport, especially when they are miserable every step of the way during the process (Outside The Lines). Dr. Gail Gross, a human behavior & family expert, is surely right about evaluating the situation before deciding what is best for the student athlete.
Out of high school, many students receive scholarships to follow their passion of playing sports; these college athletes take on the responsibility of being a leader to their universities and their team. Student athletes should view playing sports as an addition to completing their studies, not a replacement. Many believe student athletes should solely focus on bettering their “game” in order to make it to the professional sports league. While this is important, student athletes should also be expected to go above and beyond with their actions in and out of the classroom. College athletes should be held accountable for their education as well as their behavior, by both them-selves and their coaches.
