Social work is known by many as a profession where trained personnel provide services to individuals in need of help and uses evidence-based practice to ensure the well-being of these individuals are sustained. In this profession, many social work professionals seek opportunities to discover, create, and/or develop social venture opportunities. This is that this provides an opportunity for social workers to form a business aimed to implement solutions to social problems. It will do so by helping these individuals overcome the challenges of re-entering athletic programs after serving time in a correctional institution. The venture will do so by working to help the athletes increase educational attainment and strengthen their athletic abilities present- and post-incarceration. Also, it will work with the athletes to increase job readiness skills so they are prepared for the workforce if athletic careers do not include participating in college/professional sports. This venture is being created to address recidivism rates and increase human and social capital so these juvenile athletes can live successful lives and achieve any goals they have set; ensuring they re-enter society as productive citizens. What makes this social venture unique is that it is helping the athletes pursue their interest in sports but is giving the athletes a backup plan. Also, it is connecting these athletes with athletic programs and employers who are willing to accept their criminal histories and admit them into their athletic program/workplace. This gives these athletes the opportunity to pursue something positive and of their interest. With this as the mission, this venture has social value potential, market potential, and sustainability potential. The social value potential this social venture has is a partnership and/or alliance, achievable outcome, and organizational benefit. The venture has social value potential because it seeks to provide the juveniles the services inside of their institutions. The venture seeks to partner with the institutions in hopes that it will help fund the program by implementing it as another rehabilitation program like anger management courses, social security courses, and recreation courses etc. This will make it so the venture is able to work with the juveniles while they are incarcerated to ensure they will have a head start on their preparation for athletic/job careers.
