The meaning of suicide is an act or instance of killing yourself with purpose and intent. Usually, it can be caused by a tragic event, loss of a loved one, sexual abuse, financial problems,just about anything to be honest. It depends on the person with the suicidal thought. Like for instance, my friend wanted to kill herself because she could not deal with that fact that her mother was with a man that she simply could not stand. There was more to the story of course, the man she married, had a lot of secrets and didn’t treat her mother right. She probably wanted to find a way to escape. With suicide the symptoms are depression, bullying, self-harm, mood and mental disorder. In the journal, Multiple Sclerosis, Depression, and Suicide, Feinstein mention that “mental illness leaves patients at risk [when it comes] to harming or killing themselves, not more than a major depression which 15% lifetime prevalence of suicide has been consistently noted”. People with mental illness ends up having depression leading up to suicidal thoughts and may harm themselves. Probably because of the state they’re in and feel like they need a way out from what they are going through. From my research, Kidshealth stated that “Suicide attempts are the highest during middle adolescence.” When they reach a certain age like seventeen or eighteen the rate of suicide attempts begin to decrease because teenagers have learned how to deal with upset moods or difficult situations. In another journal, Spirituality, Depression and Suicide, Dan Blazer indicates that patients who struggle with depression find themselves reaching a high core like their faith traditions, which in fact is very interesting.
