Figuring out life can be one of the most difficult things that one must accomplish. As many people are victims of complaining about their lives and how nothing ever seems to go their way, we become self-centered. There are people in the world like John Elder Robison who not only was trying to figure out life but was also trying to figure out why he never could accomplish what was considered “normal”. As the readers learn throughout the book all about John Elder’s life and how he conquered it while having an undiagnosed case of asperger’s. It is important to me that a memoir should be very detailed but tell the story of how the author became to acceptation or even finding the diagnosis of their disorder. John Elder presents to the readers a wonderful explanation of what he went through in his life, he didn’t focus on all the bad and negative but he came to find the good in what was happening. By the end of the story John Elder tells us of how everyone has those little voices in their heads telling them that they cannot do something. He elaborates on this by telling us of how he felt at his lowest that he should give up and live in dumpsters but he never let it win. John Elder provided the readers with a positive message as we finished his memoir. The importance of his message is astonishing, as he tells us that when he heard these same voices as a child he told himself that he can and now he did. We see him overcome all his experiences such as, drop out in high school to becoming a guitar specialist for KISS. Marbles was a very different book to me, it seemed to be kind of confusing at the start of it. Although it was a little confusing the style of written was very reflection of the disorders that Ellen Forney had and how they impacted her. Being a reader who has several anxiety and mild depression, my understanding of the book was a lot different from other people’s that I have talked to about it. This memoir seems that it could be a quick read where you can easily just read through it and have no problem getting it done in about a couple of hours. Although it took me a lot longer to read than planned it was a read that was interesting and that you had to read slowly to be able to grasp all that was going on. There are so many different types of ways that Ellen could had chosen to write her memoir in and by choosing a graphic memoir I believe that it tells a lot about her as a person and her
