In Beth McMurtrie’s article “Why Colleges Haven’t Stopped Binge Drinking”, colleges have been and are continuing to drop the ball when it comes to stopping binge drinking by college students. McMurtrie begins the article by explaining the impact that binge drinking has on the lives of students involved. Some colleges are beginning to overlook the problem completely. It appears that the whole problem has been purposely overlooked in many instances for many different reasons. There are those out there that believe that binge drinking and college life go hand in hand and that these that partake of such will get it under control when they are ready.

His main thesis within the article is that the author presents causes and approaches to the behavior with binge drinking. The behavior has not declined, and showed very little change over the past four years throughout the research. The author uses explicit thesis to form a noticeable purpose regarding binge drinking and his plan of why binge drinking may be a serious problem in colleges.
When college students under the age of Twenty-one old drink, they are damaging their brain and their way of succeeding in life. Students in college don't want to get in trouble for drinking, so they become reckless. They do things such as "pregaming," which is binge drinking in private before going in public. If they are drinking in private and someone gets hurt, it's less likely someone is going to get help. Getting help may cause them to get arrested for underage drinking themselves. "Underage drinkers
Within residence halls, RA’s often put on programing that educates about drinking. It seems that many of the the campaigns are focused on alcohol addiction, not on binge consumption. This issue is relevant to the client because college aged students often die from alcohol related injuries, binge drinking makes this more likely to happen.
Society has left an invisible impact on how we perceive the college lifestyle as a whole. This ranges from the belief that all students are sleep deprived from staying up too late to finish their homework. Also the sociological acceptance that college is the place to party and drink every single weekend. Theirs a sociological point of view and how society has played a key part in underage drinking being accepted in college towns. Not just limited to the effects of alcohol on a student’s wellbeing; also, the short term and long term conditions that can arise from binge drinking.
Can campus binge drinking problems be eliminated? To begin with binge drinking at college is a large problem. I do not think it possible to eliminate it totally. Our culture has a mindset that drinking is socially acceptable in almost any situation. Almost any student wants to be accepted in society.

When the topic “college” is brought up, many things come to mind. One main thing that comes to mind is the parties, and where there is a party, there is alcohol. The alcohol culture, or “binge-drinking” culture has always been associated with college and has changed much along the years; more for the worse. Despite decades of research, hundreds of campus task forces and millions invested in bold experiments, college drinking in the United States remain as much of a problem as ever. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, more than 1,800 students die every year of alcohol-related causes.
Binge drinking is an extremely dangerous practice, not only for the drinker, but also for people in surrounding areas. This is because the drinker will experience moderate to serious health defects, and also (while intoxicated) will lose inhibitions and the ability to make good decisions, therefore endangering the people around them.
Some might say that the use of alcohol is common place and nothing more than a stepping stone in the ritual of being a college student. The problem is the consequences of binge drinking and excessive drinking should not be accepted as “ritual” or common place. Some consequences are extremely problematic and not only impact the individual but have lasting consequences for the college environment in a global sense.
It apears that children who exprienced drinking at young age will also continously and habitually drink in the future once they grow up. They do not simple do this occasionally but it has become a frequent and habitual addiction (Christiansen et al. 7). College Students’ Exposure to Alcohol Drinking Drinking alcoholic beverages among college students is widely common nowadays in this generation. Several reasons can be recognized why students drink alcohol. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Inc, (2016), improving self-confidence, altering own identity (to adapt), curiosity, lack of parental advice, problems of daily living, running away from family dilemma, experiencing academic difficulty and other mental-related problems drive the teenagers to drink alcohol. Considering the reasons stated above, these can be some of the many ways how young people manage with their personal, emotional and social problems that they are experiencing.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services acknowledges that there are 10 million teens in the United States drinking regularly and over 20 percent binge drink. ( Teen Alcoholism). This information illustrates the dependence that teens have developed for alcohol and many of them don 't even know the issue that they are building for themselves. The signs that demonstrate that a teen is becoming or is addicted to alcohol are that he/ she is a heavy drinker, they drink regularly for no reason and becoming upset over the removal of accessibility of alcohol.
