In the video Building Relationships: Share Passion with Students, Mr. Van Dyck shows us what it means to be a teacher that models a passion for learning by showing interest in your students. Mr. Van Dyck connects with his students in ways that allow him to take interest in his students. When students see that you show interest towards them and care about their education, then they develop more interest to learn. Mr. Van Dyck connects with individual students by taking interest in them, he challenges himself to find a special interest in each one of them, and he also find ways in which he can see himself in them. For my service leaning assignment, I volunteered at the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival in support of the Montgomery County Food Bank receiving donations at the festival entrance. In volunteering at the event, I learned the differences in service learning, volunteerism and community service and will provide details in what I learned a about each. I will also provide details and examples of teamwork, communication and networking experiences gained while at the event. A brief overview of the Montgomery County Food bank will also be provided with information on the assignment task, measurable success and interaction with fellow students and organization directors.

Desmond Tutu and Partnership/ Intertwined? Archbishop Desmond Tutu, winner of the 1984 Nobel Peace prize for his leadership and efforts to end apartheid, first black Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, South Africa, and continuous civil and social rights activist (Berger, M. 2021), spoke on a spring day to the 2006 graduating class of William & Mary University. Tutu used his trademark wit and humor to acknowledge the students and those that supported them in their efforts to graduate, gently mock himself and his fame, engaged us in the idea that we could be a partner with God to improve this world, and edified the spirit of those that heard him. As an experience orator, Tutu was able to weave ethos, pathos, and logos together seamlessly leading the listener (or reader) to feel that their contributions in life can make a difference and has a purpose.
The purpose of this research paper is to inform readers on how William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, also known as W.E.B. Du Bois, impacted higher education. The beginning of the paper informs readers on the biography of Du Bois life and experience living in a time of race segregation. The next section are historical and philosophical issues that Du Bois encountered in hopes to bring equality for all interracial citizens in the United States. Thirdly, the report discuss a Supreme Court case that helped launched the ending of segregation in public schools. Lastly, the end of the report discuss one of our current educational trends that seem to relate to Du Bois double consciousness concept.

The basic principle of servant leadership is serving others and the community. The three principles of the servant-leadership are sharing the power, putting the needs of others first and helping people achieve their highest potential so that they may want to serve others. This creates an environment of trust, collaboration, teamwork and group improvement. Robert Greenleaf created the term, Servant Leader, and creating the idea of leading by serving with individuals and organizations. In one of his major essay’s, The Institution as Servant, Greenleaf (as cited in “What is Servant Leadership,” n.d.) expressed what was frequently called the “credo.”
This volunteer experience allowed me to implement servant leadership principles including, listening, empathy, stewardship and commitment to the growth of others and building of the community. The objective or mission of my project is to help teach homeless people job skills to better equip them for the workforce. The desired result is to help people develop the skills needed to acquire and maintain gainful employment. My ultimate objective is to prolong the life span of the homeless population in metro Atlanta. With that being said, I have decided to do my service learning project at the Atlanta Mission. The Atlanta Mission is a non-profit organization that is based out of Atlanta and their primary objective is to eliminate homelessness within the city.
Service to me means, giving your all to you school and community without expecting anything in return. At a young age, I participated in many fundraising events with my dance team where we provided a service to others such as annual car washes, waiting tables at various restaurants, and organizing dances and activities for kids. In Junior High I was a key club member and we volunteered for concession stand duties, helped out at elementary basketball tournaments, and acted as line judges or referees at volleyball tournaments. Since my mom is a first grade teacher, I spent many summers setting up and organizing her classroom, and on my days off from school, I provided kids in my mom’s classroom with help in reading or math. As a part of Earth Week at our school, I did various jobs for people in my community.
Throughout my three years of being in St. Thomas Aquinas High School, I have participated in a few different acts of service. For every year in my high school career, I did service at my old elementary and middle school, All Saints Catholic School. During Presidents’ Day weekend, I provided help at their Church’s carnival for four days--Thursday to Sunday. For one week every summer, the senior high youth at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Roseville drop everything to venture somewhere in the United States on a service learning trip. Since I happen to attend that church, and I just so happen to be a senior high youth, I have joined these trips for three years running. Usually, we help out in soup kitchens, do some yard work, or visit homeless shelters. However, our trip during the summer of my junior year was destined to be different from the very beginning.
