3885 Wednesday Wars February “You should learn from your competitor, but never copy. ”-Jack Ma. In The Wednesday Wars, by Gary D. Schmidt, the lead character, Holling Hoodhood has a dad who’s constantly agitated and distressed about his job. If you do one little thing that could mess up his business, it could affect the descendants after him. Holling’s dad finally has a chance to have his verge of happiness.
1) Isaac Hourwich’s purpose in writing this book is to oppose the claims of the Immigration Commission as there are also many stereotypes of Immigrants created by Native born Americans and also challenge the findings of the Immigration Commission. Hourwich uses his economic aspects to explain that Immigrants do not cause the labor market to decline, decreases wages, and increase unemployment in the United States. Most of the native-born Americans fear that as the rate of Immigration increases, it might hurt the American wage-earners. Therefore, there is an assumption that most American workers made was that “undesirable” Immigrants should be out of the country and keep the American workers busy. (82)
The author starts out stating that not much remains of Hugh Glass because after all, the only known direct source from Hugh Glass himself is a single letter. Because of this, not much is known about him, which the author states is why he chose him. No one knows of his opinions or his appearance. The only thing the author and other historians can definitely know for sure is that he had phenomenal survival skills. Hugh Glass was mauled by a female grizzly bear in the summer of 1823.
The author Andrew Curry thinks that workers today are unfulfilled because they would rather work a job they do not like and earn more money than work a job that they are passionate about and earn less. He also talks about how people seem to work more than relax in today's age like when he says “instead of working less, our hours have stayed steady or risen.” (Curry, Kirszner and Mandell 399) the evidence that he uses to connect his view is the amount of people who complain about their jobs. Nowadays everyone knows a person that constantly complains about his or her job but they still work that same job because of the financial gain. Many people today hate the job they work but that same job is the reason they have a car, house etc.
The research method that Dwight Conquergood used is that of ethnographic fieldwork, which is one of the early qualitative research methodologies, involving the combination of fieldwork and observation, which seeks to understand the cultural phenomena that reflect the knowledge and system of meanings guiding the life of a cultural group (Boundless.com). In Philadelphia he had a friend named Mark he had fought all of his fights because Darrell was small and skinny kid. Then his mom found a better job in California. Reading The Shack affected me both spiritually and morally. It was challenging to read some of the ideas this book had, spiritually. Although, I related it to many different events that I have faced in my own life. I have related Mack to my own father and his strength towards our family.
