For my summer assignment I read the fiction narrative Claudette Colvin Twice Toward Justice. I picked this book, because in the summary it said a my girl my age stood up to the Jim Crow Laws. It surprised me that Claudette stood up but, what surprised me even more was that she stood up before Rosa Parks did. When I started reading the book, I could tell that Claudette was the type of person that did not like what was going on in the world. Even when she was a teenager she wanted to be a human rights activist, which somewhat inspired her to stand up for her rights. I really enjoyed reading this book, because it adds on to your knowledge of segregation and tells you what an average black family had to go threw from the 1880’s to the middle of the 1950’s. In the book Claudette did not give up her seat to a white woman, because there weren't any other seats available in the black only area. Claudette did this, because the law was that you didn't have to give up your seat until there were other seats available and by her doing this she was arrested. Another major conflict was that Claudette got pregnant at a young age. This caused many of the civil rights leaders to start ignoring her case, because she was an “unfit face for the civil rights movement”. This is why we hear about Rosa Parks way more than
