Milton Rakove’s “Don’t Make No Waves… Don’t Back No Losers,” takes an in-depth look at Chicago’s political structure and claims that Chicago’s political machine is not only a model example of successful politics, but also despite criticism, the “durability of the machine, it’s efficiency, and its ability to survive and prosper, despite the urban crisis, cannot be challenged,” (Rakove 3). Rakove’s title of the book emphasizes the simplistic nature of the machine’s design. As detailed in the text, in order to be successful and preserve the hierarchy chosen for the machine cannot make waves and the political party backing the machine cannot back any losers.
To begin with, I’m going to tell you about a story that we are reading in Mrs. Gibson’s class. The name of this book called “Bad Boy” by Walter Dean Myers. I’m only going to tell you about chapter 5&6. First off, in the beginning of the chapter Walter and his friends shocked the pastor. “how did they do that?”

The article “Teens Against Hitler” by Lauren Tarshis shows many challenges that an innocent boy named Ben had to go through. The article also explains what acts of courage Ben made to get over these challenges. Bonnie Mann’s essay Creepers, Flirts, Heroes and Allies discusses the four ways men can contribute to sexual harassment. There are certainly cliche and statistically prevalent circumstances. First, a man can be defined as a creeper which is essentially a man who has the potential of sexual harassment. A man does not need to have stimagized creepy behavior for example, a work setting where the harasser is in a higher position. Any form of creepy behavior is legitimate sexual harassment.
Locked Inside One’s Body: Imprisoning Ourselves American writer, Lee Martin in his essay “Bastards,” describes the difficulties one encounters while trying to leave the past behind. Martin recalls his relationship with his father was by mentioning several factors that created a violent and an unhappy environment such as constant confrontations and verbal abuse that at times led to physical violence. He explains that due to his father losing both of his hands in an accident created an unsuitable place for him to reside in. Martin, instead of facing his reality, being an unhealthy relationship with his father, he instead decides to hide this phenomenon, his purpose being to forget about the past by avoiding to discuss it.

In the book Renegades by Marissa Meyer, many things happen throughout the book that many will find interesting. This story follows two main characters, Adrian Everhart and Nova Artino/Mclain. In this world, there are these people who are prodigies with superpowers that they either inherit or are born with. There is also a Council that is made of the best superheroes or Renegades, all around the city that this book takes place in and the son of the top two Council members is Adrian Everhart with their leadership skills and the ability to make whatever he draws come to life. There are also villains in this world of heroes called the Anarchists and within these villains is the niece of the formerly ruler of Gatlon City during the Age of Anarchy.
Most authors, when writing futuristic stories, tend to have technological advances like flying cars or robots to add that flare. However, in the story “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut there is nothing of the sort. In the year 2081, the US government has tried to reach full equality by using handicaps on the gifted. The society’s rules leave more people with pain and anger rather than a sense of total equality with each other. Which leads some readers to wonder what a society where the ungifted were lifted up instead of the gifted put down would be like in comparison with Vonneguts.
