Steven Harmon, he is the protagonist of Monster. The novel starts off with Steve writing about the best time to cry and all of this stuff he is experiencing. He is a 16 year old African-American on trial for the murder of a drug store owner. He acts nervous in the courtroom when the antagonist of the novel, Bobo King gives him a dirty look. King is the other young man who is accused of taking part of the crime.
In the world, minorities are often stereotyped and profiled unfairly. The novel “Monster” by Walter Dean Myers, portrays this by showing how quick people are to judge a young black male. In the book, Steve Harmon, a black sixteen-year-old, is on trial for supposedly participating in the robbery that resulted in the murder of store owner, Mr Nesbitt. Steve is arrested and detained in absolute isolation while having to undergo everyone’s, including his parents’ harsh critiques. Despite being found not guilty, Steve continued to be profiled as a monster and will never be treated as a teenager anymore.

First everyone's tension is running high and flowing and making people very uneasy about what they should do if case of an emergency. In Kelly Link's short story “Monster” it is based in North Carolina at a camp, but more specifically a group boys in Bungalow 4 and 6 who go out on a hike to camp at Honor lookout in tents. At the beginning Bungalow 6 went out on a hike and saw a monster and of course they came back to tell all of the other groups at camp. A big part of the story is about Bungalow 4 and how everyone in the group picks on this kid named James Lorbick who i guess you could say is not the coolest kid around. When Bungalow 4 goes on their hike it is not much of a true hike but they do find a big bone in the mud. When they set up to camp a kid named Brian starts picking on James.
Rod Sterling's horror teleplay, Monsters are Due on Maple Street perfectly illustrates how fear can turn people into monsters. At the start of the play, a screeching sound and a flash of light descend from the sky. Maple Street is filled with terror and fear as a result of this. The group becomes irrational when they adjust their views to fit others' views (mob mentality), finding scapegoats everywhere they look.

It has been portrayed as a supernatural creature with grotesque features that normally brings disruption to the city and needs to be tamed or controlled to bring once again peace to the story. Due to this, it is most commonly depicted with a negative connotation, and with the idea of horror and fear. The monster has been present since the bible, which was written approximately 3,400 years ago, with the anecdote of Goliath. It has remained with its primary role of converting the protagonist into a hero and providing fear to the storyline.
In today’s society there are many people who prey on the defenseless and the innocent. I believe that these people are modern day monsters. This group of people of course includes gangsters, sex offenders, and terrorists, who commit atrocious acts against fellow humans. However this list also includes unjust governments like the Islamic State who will behead anybody who doesn’t follow their oppressive Sharia law, and the North Korea government who throws any of its citizens who has a political disagreement into a prison camp. If there are monsters in society then there has to be heroes, and I believe that the heroes are the people who stand up against the monsters.

For my Lord of the Flies project I choose to make a model of the island described in the book. My class was given the choice of creating a scene from the novel or the entire island. I made the entire island because it helps show the reader what they are looking at and where the characters are at all times. When creating my model, I tried to make the most important symbols in the book stand out including, the mountain, the pig’s head, and the bonfire. While it may seem the hardest, creating the mountain was actually one of the easiest parts of this project, although it was the most time consuming.
