As told by Patrick Lencioni, author of The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, “In the course of my experience working with CEOs and their teams, two critical truths have become clear to me. First, genuine teamwork in most organizations remains as elusive as it has ever been. Second, organizations fail to achieve teamwork because hey unknowingly fall prey to five natural but dangerous pitfalls, which I call the five dysfunctions of a team” (Lencioni, 187). Lencioni is an expert when it comes to building a company that thrives on teamwork. A quick overview of Lencioni, “Pat is the founder of The Table Group and the author of 10 books which have sold over 4 million copies and been translated into more than 25 languages”. In Lencioni’s book he talks about these five dysfunctions and breaks them down for us. We first read a fictional story or “fable” about a company named DecisionTech. I’m the creative director, I handle all the internal and external marketing and advertising in the company. Within the office building we a have a team of six members who all have different jobs. We are very open with one another and do are best to learn about one another. We all do our best to put all our ideas on the table and not keep them bundled up. We create deadlines for ourselves so we never miss opportunities to grow and succeed. Goals are set at the beginning of each week we always try to achieve.
