Summary Of The Book 'Witness' By Karen Hess

In the novel the “Witness” by Karen Hess it coincides with some of the issues that occur in the 21th century while this story takes place in the 20th century. It is fiction but it covers a topic that tends to be very shut out but important. In this story we learn some of the major problems that took place, not only was there crime but in fact prejudice and discrimination. In which many of these forms we either feel one is better and higher up than us or vice versa. We find out in the story that not always do our beliefs stay the same for misjudgment occurs more than admitted. Discrimination doesn’t just occur from race. It tends to lean more in that way but in “witness” it also went into religion. Lenora’s closest and possibly only friend dear little Esther was discriminated by the fact that she was Jewish. She tended to be white but others looked at her different because of her personal beliefs. The definition of discrimination Point A; The unjust of prejudicial treatment of different categories of people of things especially on grounds of race. Esther brought Lenora into their home and when she approached Sara she was shivering from the cold but in what ran through Sara’s mind was to do the right thing and give her a warm drink and a blanket. In this case she handed Lenora a mug that was missing a handle due to an earlier incident in which it broke. Sincerness was shown when Esther brought her dear friend one of their best quilts. Sara’s actions show that she feels an equality difference in terms which she doesn’t care to give the little girl Lenora anything with quality. On this subject prejudice come into play with just small actions that one doesn’t give much thought into this
