How did you grow up? Did you sit with them at the dinner table, talking, laughing, eating supper and getting closer? The picture you formed in your head, throw it all away because the Wall family was completely the opposite of it. Their family was a fairly large one, with two parents and four children, you d think that they d have the money to properly support them, but thats far from the case. The money is spent on beer rather than food. Chocolate rather than clothes. In The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, she tells her story of how her life was full of surprises and uncertainty. Rex took both of them to dinner at the Nevada Hotel before they went up the stairs to a small suite. Ginger and Rex went into the bedroom together while Brian stayed in the front room reading the comic book that Rex got him for his birthday. Soon, when they both came out of the room, Ginger sat down with Brain, saying how much she loved Sad Sack. Rex made Brain give her the book, despite it being his gift. It's heavily implied that Gringer is a prostitute, one that Rex spends his wifes money on, but it isnt the first time that Rex, who has no job, spends his wifes money that should be going to the kids. When Rose Mary tried to hide the money from him by using Jeannette, he took them to dinner and used a week's worth of money for food on steaks, and then tried to leave a ten dollar tip that Rose Mary was thankfully able to grab. What stands out to me is how reckless Rex is with money, despite not having a job of his own. He doesn't seem to care about the fact that his kids need that money to eat, and have warm clothes, let alone a roof over their heads, which should be
