“The One World School House” by Salman Khan is a book that is written to illustrate the creation and development of what is now known as Khan Academy. Khan Academy is an online resource with countless tools for teachers to use in and out of the classroom. Khan’s book starts by talking about what would be the beginning of his site. He started out by creating video lessons on YouTube. From videos his ideas started to grow in regard to how we teach children. His idea was that you could have a classroom full of students of all ages and levels. He coupled this idea with the want for incorporation of technology in the classroom. Khan Academy was a process of creating new programs as well as rewriting some that he had already created to make the site all that Khan wanted it to be. Because the content is all online it makes it easier to progress monitor and to be able to connect lessons. The road to creating Khan Academy was not always smooth and there were times where Khan had to change things that he thought were going to work. He put forth a lot of effort to make sure that the Academy would be a resource for teachers. Some of this effort included partnering with schools to test out how well the site accomplished its goals to help further learning for students of all levels and ages. Although Khan believes that his program helps to create a functional classroom environment, he stresses the fact that there is no blanket solution to creating a perfect classroom environment. The Academy basically started off as a problem generator and progressed from there. He emphasizes the importance of active learning.
