In “How to Handle a Bully,” by Kathiann Kowalski, an experienced journalist, Kowalski reports the different strategies to stop bullying. She informs that bullying is at its peak in the late teenage years, but can start in an early age. Kowalski concurs that girls intimidates as much as boys; however, they do it differently. She explores many reasons why bullying occurs at the first place, and who starts bullying. Kowalski exemplifies the situations that victims could be in, and the solution on how to handle the bully.
Jamie Nabozny was a typical middle school student who happened to be gay. The bullying started with some students calling him pejorative (CRAFT) names behind the teacher’s back, and sometimes, right in front of the teacher’s face. He put up with it for some time until attempting to commit suicide. He had to have his stomach pumped while his mother stood by with no idea of how how to help her son. Nabozny’s mother spoke to the middle school principal who dismissed her claims saying “boys will be boys”.
The word bullying has now been defined to mean a typical adolescent response to deem to be an outsider. This term fits perfectly for a few characters in this story

Shane Koyczan, a spoken word poet delivered a powerful speech called “To this day….for the bullied and the beautiful,” at a Ted Conference for successful working adults, in 2013. Koyczan objective was to poetically develop an image of what the victims of bullies go through. Koyczan overall speech was driven by emotion and was filled with purposeful words in order to connect with the audience. Koyczan’s message was filled with pathos and ethos to appoint and relate to the audience. Instead of telling the audience a sob story of his childhood, Koyczan instead took the opportunity and created an appealing speech the captured the audience's attention.

The Bullying Epidemic Bullying has increased drastically among adolescence in the past few years, not only in the United States but in other counties such as England. Gradually, bullying has become a rising epidemic among teens, largely due to rates of suicide and self-harm. According to Kathy Shaidle in the article “In Defense of Bullying” which states that this increase in suicide rates are non-significant (page 1). Then Kathy states that bullying isn’t a bad thing and can actually improve the motivation of the bullied victim to succeed, and that later in life they will be better for it and more successful. Kathy states that she had crooked teeth and thick glasses.

In high school, bullying is one of the biggest issues in today’s society and affects almost 3.2 million kids each year. The effects of bullying is a long-term issue and can cause more problems like, depression, health problems, and suicidal thoughts or actions. Another problem is the fact that over 64% of kids don’t report being bullied or make an attempt to get help. Bullying can actually lead to even more drastic problems, like, attempting suicide, and school shootings. This is another reason why fiction books are important.
I used to be a victim of bullying in the fifth grade and trust me, it wasn’t fun. I would get bullied on a daily basis. I would hate waking up for school because, I’d remember the bullies and persuade my mom not to take me to school. In class, when we had to get into groups for a discussion, I’d be alone because. Because those bullies embarrassed me so much that, no one wanted to be in my group.
Imagine wanting to kill yourself just because some dumb people decide to pick on you every day. It is horrid knowing that 12.1 per cent of students consider suicide yearly from bullying. So today I am arguing that bullying in Australia has been pushed too far away from other events like Covid 19 that we neglect the appalling consequences that bullying can affect us students and teenagers. There are three reasons I want to speak about bullying today: bullying in Australia affects students tremendously, bullying never ceases and affects the economy and lastly, bullying can lead to many suicides and this should be a crime.
The poem “To This Day” by Shane Koyczan is to make the readers understand that there is hope for the ones who got, or even get bullied in school. Bullying happens every day in a regular school day and probably not on school days. “So we grew up believing that no one would ever fall in love with us, that we’d be lonely, forever.” (Line 23) The poet explains how by the countless names that the bullied endured, he thought no one could ever properly love the mistreated.
Originally, I was going to choose an excerpt from Bud, Not Buddy for the key assignment. We had previously read this novel as a whole group in class and I completed the text completxity assignment based off of this text. Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully.
