The Truth About the O.J. Simpson Trail dives deep into the defense of O.J. Simpson in what was known as “The Trial of the Century”. The author, F. Lee Bailey, was a criminal defense attorney who took on O.J. Simpson’s case as the Architect of Defense. In this book, he recounts the exact events that took place from the night of the murder to Simpson’s trial. By writing this book, Bailey was able to further prove that O.J. Simpson was not guilty and argue that the jury made the correct verdict. I chose this book, because while I have always been interested in this trial, I believed that he was truly guilty. By claiming that the police were just “so anxious” to arrest him makes it seem as if they had something against him in the first place, but he also had no real reason to think that they were there without a probable cause. Not to mention, once of his close friends, as mentioned before, Robert Shapiro, had called him and asked him to join his team. This alone makes me believe that even if Bailey did not actually believe he was not guilty, he would work on the case, defending Simpson, no matter the circumstances. When addressing how he was brought onto the case, he explained, “So when I received the call from my then-friend Robert Shapiro, who had been retained by Simpson as his attorney following his ex-wife’s tragic murder, I was happy to lend whatever advice or services might be beneficial”. When talking about the offensive, it was mostly about their mistakes, or poor choices, and they refused to touch on any good they might’ve done.
