In the story the “Utterly Perfect Murder”, Ray Bradbury uses the exposition and the character development of Doug in order to demonstrate the theme that forgiveness can bring a greater satisfaction than revenge ever could. The exposition reminisces on Doug’s past with Ralph, reliving his boyhood, and giving the best reason for why he wanted to murder Ralph Underhill. He remembers the scars that Ralph once left on him, emotionally and physically. Doug, leaving the station, falls back in time“ I was covered with bruises, both arms.
