When Andreotti makes the following statement I believe she means that when Northern/Western values and interests are being viewed as global and universal, it makes it seem like Northern/Western values and interests are more important and superior to the rest of the world, which is not true. Therefore when you are projecting Northern/Western values than you are saying that your values and interests are better and more important than the rest of the world’s values and interests. I think “worlding of the West as world” means that Western interest and values are being viewed and taught as what is right where as in the other parts of the world, their way of living and values are viewed as wrong and are being pressured to change. “Third” world countries notice this power imbalance and want to catch up to the rest of the world, which can give them a negative perspective of themselves and does not help the world become a better more knowledgeable place. The “sanctioned ignorance” that Andreotti discusses is what will cause the world to lose some of its diversity. It is ignorant to push your beliefs on a country or place you know very little about. As stated in the article, we are encouraging Eurocentrism and believing Western people are the most important and at the centre of the world. This causes us to look at the world from a skewed perspective and become less empathetic. There is no universally known better way of living or educating the world. I believe Andreotti fears that Western supremacy will be seen as normal and will cause such a large power imbalance that will have negative impacts on the world and how we educate students in the future. It is one thing to share your knowledge and to help those in need but it is another thing to pressure others to live a certain way that is not realistic and does not line up with their values and
