Socs and Greasers: What is the Final Word? Strength lies in differences, not in similarities.-Steven Covey. The Outsiders shows the differences between the Socs and Greasers. For instance, Greasers “drive in old souped up cars” while Socs drive mustangs. Greasers are also emotional other than Socs who “hide behind a wall of aloofness.” But, In The Outsiders, Cherry and Ponyboy meet at the drive in movie theater, Cherry ends up telling Ponyboy that “Money doesn’t separate Greasers and Socs” and “Socs don’t feel anything” Cherry also pointed out that “Greasers have different values” and “Nothing is real with Socs.” This tells me that the Socs are only showing one side of themselves to the Greasers. I think the reason why Socs are mean to the Greasers is because the Greasers have something the Socs don’t. Greasers treat each other like family while Socs sometimes don’t even listen to each other. When Johnny kills Bob, his best friend Randy tells Ponyboy that Bob just wanted discipline.
