The Summer Program is a special program that I desired to do and because I see a need for it in our community. I notice in the community many of the churches only conduct one week of vocational Bible School. However, my concern is that the children will have something to inspire them during the summer while they are out of school. The church will began the specialized program because there is a need for this type of ministry in the community. The program will meet the needs of the community and church. All volunteers must be energetic, friendly, and eager to help our young campers have the best summer of their lives. Yet, we will have a comprehensive training session one week prior to the program kicking off. The church and its members will fund the program. The necessity of this program in this community is designed especially for working parents, single parent, and low-income families (Powers.198.Figure 8.1). The staff of the Summer Program called a committee meeting and a proposal was presented to the leaders of the church for an approval of the program. The program was approved and the summer program open on June 15, 2015.
The summer program will run 6-8 weeks providing our children with a safe and an engaging environment. We will work in partnership with our surrounding communities, schools, and families to design the program that meet their special needs. We will draw upon the most effective academic enrichment, physical fitness, nutritional and life programs to challenge children and make learning fun. Many of the recreation centers have different activities for children but do not open for the entire summer neither are they Christian in nature.
4. The facilities and equipment needed.
The facilities and equipment needed for the summer program are the community center of the church. Our center has the resources that are already in place for the program. It is equipped with a full commercial kitchen and four classrooms, a playing field and five bathrooms.
5. Who has the best facilities and/or equipment the church/ or community?
The community probably would have the best facilities /or equipment, but it is not available for the time that is needed. Most parents have a schedule that will not allow them the time or transportation to pick up their children. The church community building is more flexible for the parent with transportation being accessible. The program is not based on what it can do for the church but instead what it can do for the families and community.
6. What organizational structure needed?
The organizational structure in the Christian educational department is that of trained teacher, and director of church education and volunteers, cooks and custodians.
