Watchmen Analysis Watchmen is a superhero fictional movie set in 1985 that shows the conflict of Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union. The movie is set in Nixon’s presidency when the nuclear war conflict between the US and the Soviet have escalated to the point that a thermonuclear war might start. Both politicians and the superheroes want to solve the issue and avoid WWIII war. The movie begins with the Comedian watching TV and laughing at the comments about war and doomsday clock. “it’s a joke, it’s all a joke!” the last words the comedian said before Adrian Veidt killed him. Rorschach’s famous quote of the movie comes when he’s writing his journal entry: “millions will perish in sickness and misery, why does one death matter against so many? Because there’s good and evil and evil must be punished. Even in the face of Armageddon … I will not compromise in this". He says the same thing as he's walking out of the Antarctic lab to go back to the United States, to tell the truth, and expose Adrian. Rorschach is a deontologist. He views moral life in the context of duties, obligations, and what is right as the strict code of ethics. They do not look at the outcome, rather the action is right or wrong. Rorschach did not want to use people as mean to an end. He only wanted to do what’s right without thinking about the consequence just as exactly as it happened at the end of the movie. Although the world was at peace, Rorschach could not sit simply due to the fact it was based on a lie and evil motive. Rorschach knows that he can't compromise, even when millions had sacrificed their lives, so the world would be at peace. His actions of exposing Veidt will bring the nuclear crisis back in the subject and will cause the world annihilation. As Rorschach after finding the little girl's killer " God didn't kill that little girl. Fate didn't butcher her. Destiny didn't feed her to those dogs. If God saw what any of us did that night, he didn't seem to mind. From then on, I knew; God doesn't make the world this way, we do”. He saw the world as black and white, just like his mask. He doesn’t create any escape loopholes to cheat the system and if so, he will serve justice with his own hands. And as we see at the end, Rorschach takes off his mask, showing that he feels betrayed by everyone siding with Adrian.
