Superintendent Beverly Edison's Decision-Making Model

Superintendent Beverly Edison will need to formulate a plan of action to present to the union in order to continue the Teachers Council she created. She will have to make decisions on what information is important, and come up with a satisfactory solution. There are at least four different decision-making model types that she can choose from: classical model, administrative model, incremental model, and the mixed scanning model. “Regardless of which decision-making strategy is employed, the pressures of the situation and the decision-making process itself often produce stress” (Hoy & Miskel, 2013). The classical model is not very useful for administrators because it is very limited, and they do not have all the access to all the information. According to Hoy and Miskel, “most scholars, in fact, consider the classical model an unrealistic ideal, if not naive.” This strategy is all about choosing the best alternative to fit the goal and objective of the problem that has been identified. With this strategy the problem is always active, the problem is not solved, and there is just satisfactory answers. Superintendent Edison should focus only on the important information, and on anything that is relevant to her Teacher’s Council. With this strategy, the decisions are made based on the administrators values. While the superintendent comes up with her plan, she needs to consider the problem, analyze the difficulties that exists with this problem, establish what is important in order to come up with a satisfactory solution, then come up with a plan of action and implement it. According to Hoy and Miskel, “when uncertainty and conflict prevail, as is typically the case in administrative decision making, a satisficing strategy becomes appropriate.” Therefore, choosing the administrative model would be the best choice for Superintendent
