There are several Human Resource challenges that supervisors confront today. The challenges that they face are categories into four main groups: globalization, technology, internal factors, and external factors. These different factors can cause complications on both the supervisors and the company. Globalization is described as “the development of an increasingly integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and the tapping of cheaper foreign labor markets” (Merriam Webster). There are many difficulties that supervisors may face as a result of Globalization such as downsizing and outsourcing. As a result of globalization, the company may have to down size the number of employees in order to cut cost to keep up with the competition. The supervisors have to dismiss some of the employees which would require them evaluate the performance of the workers before doing so. As described in the text, technology is growing fast and everyone is pressured to keeping up with the new advances. It may be challenging for supervisors to train and help the older generation adjust, because they did not grow up with the technology that we have today such as computers and cellphones. People may also worry about being replaced by machines which would require the supervisor to explain to the workers that they are an important part within the business and clarify that “technology is an aid not a hindrance to their work” (Chron/Small Business). Cell phones and social media is another part of technology that can be challenging for a supervisors. It can distract the workers and can even cause conflict among the workers.
