Eleven million people were killed during the Holocaust; one of those people being Anne Frank. She lived to be fifteen years old, and wrote a diary telling the story of her life which inspired many people. Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett wrote a dramatization of her diary called The Diary of Anne Frank. The main characters are Anne, Mrs. Frank, Mr. Frank, and Mr. Van Daan. The story is about how Anne and her family has to survive in a hidden room because Nazis are capturing Jews. They face hunger, boredom, and fear as they hide away in a small room. Survival is the theme of the drama because they must hide, starve, and be very careful. In the drama, the families had to survive by hiding from the Nazis. In the story, Anne explains why the family goes into hiding. In the text, it states, “‘Then the war came, and the Dutch capitulation, followed by the arrival of the Germans.’” “‘Then things got very bad for the Jews’” This shows that the family had to survive by hiding from the Germans because they were Jewish.
