However, Susan McGalla has forged a different path based on her exemplary and unique skillset. McGalla credits her humble beginnings for significantly shaping up her character and personality. Having grown up with two older brothers and a football coach for a father, McGalla valued the importance of hard work and exuding confidence while presenting her ideas before an audience. Her remarkable interaction with both men and women elevated her professional career and played an instrumental role in her success. McGalla initially served at the Joseph Horne Company as her career found its footing. Afterward, she moved on to American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. which happened to be her niche at the time.

While at the company, McGalla had to surpass expectations and go the extra mile especially in a male dominated company with hardly any woman in an executive position. During her ten year stay at the company, McGalla learnt valuable lessons as cultural diversity positively contributed to the generation of remarkable ideas which inadvertently took the company to greater heights.
