I walked over to the pool when I suddenly slipped and fell in the water. I was not a strong swimmer, and without an inner tube to help me I was even worse. I could feel myself slipping into the darkness, when a large splash happened next to me and something grabbed me from the water. I looked up and saw my dad, a hero.
James Hurst’s “The Scarlet Ibis” is about selfishness and reveals that you can't push someone to gain something as demonstrated by the authors use of characterization. Specifically James Hurst use of characterization is when the narrator is wanting the brother to do something that they don't want to do. The first insight to characterization occurs when the narrator tells doodle to touch the coffin when he doesn't want to. “I won't touch it, “He said sullenly” “Then I’ll leave you here by yourself” (318). The narrator's reference to “I’ll leave you here by yourself” illustrates that the narrator is very selfish and furthermore demonstrates how the narrator is careless about doodle and wants to push someone to gain something out of it.
Runner Essay Robert Newton’s novel ‘Runner’ Explores how the Characters situations that they find themselves in changes the choices they make. Newton demonstrates this in many ways as the characters move and progress throughout the story. The hero in the story Charlie Feehan is the main example of this as he is the one that gets offered the job to work for Squizzy. Ma and Nostrils also show that their actions change when they are put in a scenario where they are being taken advantage of or are outsmarted and muscled. These confirms the idea of how their choices are impacted by the situation they are in.

While high school sports offer students a place to develop passions and an outlet for leadership and competitiveness, the high school sports system has many problems. However, one of these problems stand out the most, in my opinion. The biggest problem in high school sports is the unfair allocation of resources. Many sports, such as volleyball, face prejudices as far as resources goes. Secondary sports, such as soccer, basketball, and cheer, are often forced to share gyms and equipment, which takes away from practice time and hinders an athlete's focus.
Swimming in West Point Lake is one way I relax and calm my nerves. Some people may have the perspective of the lake being disgusting because it is filled with squishy mud and it is filthy, but I view it as being a relaxation resort. The water from the lake is a refreshment to my parched skin, and the view of the lake’s surroundings scream beautiful words to my frustrating ears. While I swim, I just ponder on letting all my worries go one stroke at a time. Swimming also relaxes me because when I am in the water it feels as if heavy weights are lifted off my shoulders.
“The Swimmer” is a short story which follows a man named Ned Merrill as he swims home across the “River Lucinda”, a series of swimming pools that form a path to his home. It was adapted into a film titled The Swimmer, which remains quite faithful to the original work, but expands upon several aspects of the original short story. After being unable to swim through the Welchers’ pool due to their property being abandoned, Ned Merrill is forced to cross Route 424, a busy highway. “The Swimmer” follows an epic narrative structure, with Ned encountering several obstacles on his path home. The story is told in a third-person perspective and deconstructs many traditional epics by breaking down the genre into its base components and rebuilding
In today's society, sports has become a very popular leisure activity and a means of effective physical movement for many young children across the United States. and I shoved my rescue tube into her arms. Panicking she grasped the tube as we floated to the side of the pool. Back on land my body shook from the adrenaline surging through my system. After she finished coughing the woman said, “Oh my god I thought I was going to die, thank you for saving me”. I became a lifeguard at age 16 because I love helping people.
My nerves from the first class unexpectedly came rushing back. These students grew into great swimmers, but I knew that the depth of the water could petrify them. The first few students were able to swim back up with little to no effort, but the last girl lost her footing and slipped into the pool and couldn 't resurface. I froze as I saw her struggling to swim and breathe. My mind quickly flashed back to the time I jumped out of my tube and almost drowned.
My neighbor drowned when she was five-years-old. She was swimming at a friends house. When no one was watching she jumped in the deep end. She didn’t know how to swim, so she never was able to come back up after going under. Her parents were busy with her younger siblings, so they didn’t see her jump.
