The war whether it’s fake or real helps the party oppress the people because the people are scared and want to be safe and stay alive. So if the party says the can help keep them safe, the people no matter what will give up what they have to in order to stay alive. As Well as the party uses rations and gives out few things the people need in order to keep them oppressed.
Julia and Winston are both rebellious towards the party and go against the rules to overthrow the party and there both madly in love with each other. Both Winston and Julia are different because Julia doesn’t care about what the party does. Julia rebels just because, but doesn’t seem to have a reason. The fear for Winston comes when he starts to meet Julia around places and he’s scared they might get caught. So hes in an internal conflict to choose Julia or go revolt someplace else, but chooses Julia. The hate comes in the beginning because of the hatred he has for the party and he doesn’t seem to know how to ever fight back so he’s miserable because of the party. The love as well comes from Julia. Winston constantly wants to see her as if it would keep him sain.
O’Brien says that the proles will never revolt, but it’s his way of messing around with Winston in a way intriguing him to decide different. While Winston say’s hope lays in the proles because their more free than he will ever be and only they have the power to stand up for themselves.
In this society loyalties rise when we fight for what we believe in, because then and only then will we rise to the fullest power and fight back. This question was in the conflict area because it’s a conflict we face everyday and alot of people never stand up for what they think is right and are silenced by others.
