The aim of this study was to conduct a trial called SYMPLICITY HTN-2 to determine the safety and efficacy of renal denervation in reducing blood pressure in treatment-resistant hypertensive patients. The purpose of this study was to establish if renal artery denervation was an appropriate procedure in the long term in reducing blood pressure and cardiovascular associated events.
This clinical trial comprised of randomizing 106 patients with treatment-resistant hypertension into 2 groups; renal denervation along with medical therapy (n=49), or medical therapy alone (n=51).
