Handwriting was a vital part of human education for many years until a few years ago. A few years ago was the year of COVID and that was a year where everyone was indoors and technology was the main source of communication for everyone. Teachers couldn't see their students in person, so they relied on technology to get the work done to the students. After 2020, people didn't go back to paper, they stayed with technology. Students didn't have many opportunities to write on paper or use cursive handwriting when they did get the chance to write on paper. As a result, there was little need to use paper in classrooms and then came the debate of the necessity of handwriting. When a student writes down notes, they comprehend the notes at the same time as they are writing them. If everyone took down notes on the computer, they wouldn't be understanding them as well as the kids who wrote down all their notes. This was actually proven in an experiment that is written down in Source D. As stated in Source D, "One study comparing students who took notes by hand versus classmates who took notes by computer found that the handwriters exhibited better comprehension of the content and were more attentive and involved during the class discussions." This shows that people who write down their notes have a better understanding of what they are writing than people who use technology to try and understand their notes. Furthermore, many elementary school teachers still use paper to guide their students in the classroom as seen in Source F. Source F shows that classrooms still use more paper than technology even though technology is supposed to be replacing paper. Cursive allows the human brain to develop good motor skills and make them more expressive in their writing. Cursive allows the mind to connect ideas that make them write longer stories faster. As stated in Source D, "However, the result of good instruction is that students are benefited both in their cognitive development and in developing motor skills." All of these ideas show that cursive has many benefits that aren't seen but are used in many people's lives. Since many people learned cursive when they were young, their minds were already conditioned to write faster and better than people who didn't learn cursive. Although people do not use cursive in their daily lives, it impacts their brain to an extent that their mental ability to memorize and recall things is greater than the mental ability of people who didn't learn cursive. In conclusion, although cursive may appear to be useless and many people regret learning it, it has a variety of unseen benefits to a person and can help them in their everyday life. If a child learns cursive early on in life, they will be more capable of expressing themselves in a broad way, connecting ideas quickly, writing faster and sharpening their cognitive
