In the New York Times article titled Tamir Rice Case, Many Errors by Cleveland police, then a fatal one, written by both Shaila Dewan and Richard A. Oppel Jr on the date of January 22, 2015. Shaila Dewan is an employee of the New York Times, she’s not a media scholar, as reporter Dewan moved around a lot, but she is based in Atlanta, Dewan report on the black communities, Dewan believes it is one of her primary goals to get those voices into the newspaper. Richard A. Oppel, Jr. is an American journalist who has reported for The New York Times, from Iraq, Israel and Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of Duke University. At school, where he had a good attendance record, Tamir was often in trouble, classmates said, mainly for his pranks: He was deft with a whoopee cushion and liked to reseal his empty milk carton to tempt the unsuspecting.(Dewan & Oppel Jr pg, 4) the authors had no reason to add his bad behaviors from class in the article, again since this is a race issues so the authors think by labeling Tamir has a bad kid will change the result of the case, we see this in the media when someone black get killed I believe the authors of this article are trying to persuasive their audience on how Tamir was a bad kid who bully his classmates. Some appealing Ethos from the article “He had a very low key personality, and I would say kind of a gentle personality,” Father Gonda said.(Dewan & Oppel Jr pg, 5). As we drew closer to the up bring of the officer who took the life of 12 years old Tamir we can suggest this Pathos that was said about him in the article “according to police records, he had emotional problems related to a girlfriend” (Dewan & Oppel Jr pg, 6) the authors uses Imagery, Metaphor and strong Verbs those were the strategies used to put this paper
