Around the age of 13, nearly every girl in the world reaches puberty. Along with all the physical changes that occur, come many signs of womanhood. This is not a science class so I will not go into detail about those things, but most girls will need feminine products. These products become a necessity and common purchase in a girl’s life almost instantly, and there are a wide variety of these products to choose from. According to statista.com, Tampax has been the most used brand of tampons in U.S. households from 2011-2014. You can find Tampax tampons in every grocery and big box store known to man, and also in most gas stations and female restrooms throughout the country and even the world. It may be the fact that Tampax is a brand extension …show more content…
Every store I went to (Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens) had a section dedicated to feminine products. Tampax sells their product in these stores because they are where you can shop for everything from clothes to food to hygiene products to TV’s, so it’s basically a big box store. All of the stores had at least half of, if not a whole aisle lined with these necessary items for women. The aisle was divided into sections by brand, which is pretty typical if you think about the set up of other bathroom items in stores like shampoo, conditioner, and face wash. The entrance of the aisle had a small section of condoms and then went into tampons and other feminine products. Tampax was the first name brand you saw when you enter the aisle. They had the biggest section of the aisle, but the most limited quantity left (I would assume because they sold the most). Because tampons are a necessity, the prices between different brands and product lines don’t vary all that much. But Tampax is a name brand, so their products are more expensive than the generic store brand. Out of the three stores that I went to (Target, Wal-Mart, Walgreens), Wal-Mart was generally the cheapest option between the three. A box of 36 tampons cost $6.97, or 19.4 cents each at Wal-Mart. At Target, a box of 36 tampons cost 19.42 cents or $6.99 a box, and at Walgreens a box of 36 cost $8.29 or .23 cents each. Compared to other brands like Playtex and U by Kotex, the prices of Tampax products are identical to those of Playtex, but cheaper by 11 cents than those of U by Kotex. Tampax uses a value pricing strategy, with high quality and lower prices. They believe that their customers are more concerned with convenience rather than pricing. They frequent coupons within advertisements, making the burden of buying tampons a little
