The viewing of Tapestries of Movement by the Iona College Dance Ensemble was a wonderful visual experience. The program featured multiple dance pieces that explored the concept of movement exploration. In addition, the pieces explored using dance as a form of communication and expression. For description, I visually noticed the dancers wore costumes that were light in color and flowy in movement. The background of the stage appeared to be a soft white color. There was a great use of partner work in this particular piece. In terms of interpretation, this particular piece had a theme. The theme was about a dream or being in a day dream. The danced used a lot of limp and hanging movement, almost as if they were in a tired or euphoric state of mind. The movements have a flow to them. One of the dancers was diving and rolling on the floor, pointing his fingers as though he had a gun in his hands. The movement could be interpreted as though he was day dreaming that he was a cop. For analysis the dancers performed a cannon, in which all the dancers do the same movements but on a different count of 8. The dancers also created various low, medium, and high levels. They created a low level as they dived on the ground. A medium level when they did body half, while performing the limp movement with their upper torso bending forward and side. They also created high level when they were standing on top of one another, lifting each other in the air and even jumping in a circle formation. Last but not least evaluation, the concept of the dance was easy to grasp. The dancers explored formations and the connection of negative space. The dancers use locomotor actions to travel across the stage. The timing was metric during some parts and non-matric during others. In terms of body conditioning, the dancers had a lot of agility to perform the various lifts, leaps, and dives in this final
