In order to successfully execute an ethical change initiative within an organization, the important role ethical drivers play needs to be examined. Johnson outlines four ethical drivers which should be included in a program to implement and sustain ethical standards. The four drivers are comprised of the following: ethical diagnosis, engaged leadership, targeted socialization processes, and ethical training. While all of these are important, the power engaged leadership can have over a group’s ethical behavior is instrumental to successful cultural change (Johnson, 2016). This assessment can provide a starting point for introducing change into a company. The assessment can be accomplished through surveys, interviews and observation. Additionally, many companies are using risk assessment to measure how susceptible they are to the impact of unethical behavior. When analyzing the information from the assessment, consistency should also be examined to determine the variance in ethical behavior across different sectors of the organization (Johnson, 2016). Targeted Socialization Processes Targeted socialization processes describe the procedures a company can use to adopt an individual into the desired ethical culture. These processes should be filled with strong ethical communication and exemplary role models to help shape the ethical behavior of new members. Mentorship programs are a good example of a socialization process that can drive accountability and have long-term impacts on the ethical culture of an organization (Johnson, 2016). 1) Several changes could be implemented within the Kenworth organization to further engage leadership. Investing resources in stronger ethical training would be an effective place to start. Today, a video is provided to leadership annually to view at one’s convenience. A more engaged, interactive ethical training broken up into specific modules is potentially a better model. The mentorship suggestion outlined in the socialization process would also be an opportunity to engage leadership in active role-modeling for newer or less experienced leaders within the company. The environment within the daily operation is fast paced and highly stressful. Often times reactions are not well thought out and people may engage in activities to either hide or displace accountability in certain situations.
