1. Leadership to me is someone that truly cares about the people he or she is leading. You must have a clear vision and make sure everyone knows your vision. A leader has to be a great follower and must be humble.
2. I have had many leadership experiences in my career, most of them are all good experiences which I reflect on from time to time and has helped me set the foundation of my leadership style. The ones I seem to go back to the most are all the bad examples. For me I always look to see where he or she might have failed and apply it to myself, so I can learn from their mistakes. I constantly do a self check of myself and adjust when necessary. Doing the LPI 360 showed some weak spots and was a great tool to see where I am at.

We operate in an inherently dangerous environment; I expect each of you to apply TCT/ORM principals and identify potential risks, seek safer alternatives and/or mitigate risks as appropriate on and off duty. We will pursue an aggressive u/w training and physical fitness program.
Enforce standards: We must hold ourselves and each other to the highest Coast Guard standards. We must not select which policies or standards we will enforce, rather enforce them equitable.
Except Change: We must obtain and expand our knowledge and understanding beyond the limits of our technical competence or rating. We must be receptive to change and see challenges and change as opportunities, and then seize them!
Family: To be successful we need to find balance between our family and our professional lives, don’t allow your job to consume you and become your entire life. Your families are your greatest treasure; they will sustain you well after your time served in the Coast Guard. Take time for yourself and enjoy your time with your family. You should take great pride in what you do for a living and look forward to putting your uniform on. Most importantly enjoy what you do and Have Fun doing
