Introduction:
Literacy is one of the best gifts you can present to a person. It provides the person with the opportunity to communicate with others. Although the skills take a while and a lot of practice to master, they open up limitless opportunities. These opportunities can then improve the lives of the next generation, greatly impacting and improving communities. Reading and writing also brings joy to many people. If you would like to encourage literacy skills in the lives of people around you, here are some helpful ideas. There are certain methods on how to teach adult learners writing skills.

Learners need to be taught to listen, as this is an important skill. Learners need to be able to listen to a lecture, and also identify that the words spoken are made up of different sounds. Once they understand the concept of those sounds, they will also need to be taught how to classify the sounds. When they are content with identifying sounds, they should then be taught how to influence sounds within words. This means they would be able to identify when words rhyme or when a word out of a series ends/begins with a dissimilar sound than the rest. Compound sounds also need to be taught to the learners. The learning process should be simplified by giving the learners the most elementary skills so that they are ready for the more intricate ones.
Teachers need to build trust with their learners. This means: do not pass judgement, do not make them feel foolish or unworthy, do not condemn them for their errors, and be patient for as long as possible. Most importantly show them that teachers make errors too, often having to ask for help or looking up a word they do not understand out of a dictionary. Presenting this behaviour will show the learners that having to look something up or not knowing a certain fact is not an indication of idiocy or limitation of character.
Teachers need to help learners build their self-confidence. Uneducated adults tend to be embarrassed that they do not know how to read or write. Building up their self-confidence will motivate them to go outside the box minus fear of dismissal. When the learner does well or has improved, then the teacher should let them know therefore encouraging them to keep
