Teaching Philosophy Statement

Since we started kindergarten one of the most commonly asked questions of students is: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” For most people, this varies as they age. For me, however, I’ve always know in my heart teaching was what I wanted to do.
What was it about teaching that was appealing to me? Growing up I always loved helping my classmates when they didn’t understand what we were learning, and I wasn’t half bad at it. Into high school I have had opportunities to do job shadowing and short teaching activities in various classrooms. Through these I have confirmed this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

How does one become a teacher? An entry level teacher typically has a bachelor’s degree (however masters tends to be preferred) in their subject. In the state of New Mexico a teacher must hold a bachelor’s degree complete a New Mexico teacher preparation program, and pass the required content and subject area exams. Personally, I’ll be going to ENMU for my college education. There is will complete a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in English with Secondary Licensure and a minor endorsement in Theatre.
There are many obstacles in teaching. Education is an ever changing field, with standards and programs being updated constantly. Making sure you teach all of these, in a way understood by the students in the time frame available, is no easy task. Teaching also requires classroom management skills, What do you do when a student talks back? You also have to work with difficult parents, a job in itself. The perks highly outweigh the obstacles for me
