As a teacher, I am learning how to write lesson plans more accurately, and figuring out two activities for the students, to make sure all are engaged with something in front of them that is constructive. I am learning that my lesson plans need to accommodate all intellectual abilities, learning styles, and personality. As a teacher, I am learning that some students can multitask and others cannot, utilizing this to their advancement is key. I am learning to become a more creative teacher with my lesson plans, thinking outside the box to make the lessons creative, enjoyable and educational for all students. The responsibilities of a teacher in the classroom often go beyond teaching facts, figures and basic skills. It incorporates many facets of life, including social and emotional skills. I am excited to teach students something new. I taught my students’ two different, yet connected math lessons to begin my learning about my teaching techniques at Delaware. The lessons were on how to count to twenty, double digits, adding and subtracting. In my opinion lessons went well, they were interesting, and the students were engaged in what I was teaching, wanting to learn more. They were engaged in the lessons by working with cubes or counters to add and take away numbers. This hands-on teaching style allowed the children to work with their minds and body. It was critical thinking, and they had tools to aid them through their processes. The connection of the two-math lesson allowed the student to review without thinking about it, and add gain knowledge from the second lesson. I was trying to build on knowledge gain, and advance to the next stage of learning, which I believe I accomplished. As I evaluated my ELA/SS lesson, I admit I was a bit concerned because I was not sure where my students stood with language, spelling, and verb comprehension. It found the prerequisite beneficial because some students knew about action verbs, some did not and others knew the words, they just did not know they were called a verb. A few of my students knew what an action verb was, and what it meant, but most needed clarification, which this story on verbs provided and allowed me to prepare a lesson fit for my students. This lesson also went well, and my students learned what an action verb was, the meaning of it and how to utilize it in language. They enjoyed me reading a story, and the activities, especially where they were acting out an action verb. As I was teaching the lessons, I was journaling on each students understanding for future use, comprehension, and progress that was achieved by at the end of the lesson. Ultimately, knowing they were gaining more knowledge about action verb, then they currently knew when the lesson began. To see student gain knowledge is the ultimate achievement for a teacher, knowing a student is adding to their skill set is so
