Since the dawn of time, generation after generation exclaims, “that’s gonna rot your brain!” The radio generation claimed too much television would rot the next era’s brain. The television generation claimed too much cell phone use would rot the next era’s brain. The list goes on and on. Contrary to this popular belief, generation after generation continues to be more advanced and innovative than the one that came before. In fact, the people of today seem to be more aware what’s going on in the world than any generation before. They know what they want and are using current technology, such as social media, to achieve their goals. With all of these people using social media so often, why wouldn’t companies use the same platforms to grow their business? Anyone can create a social media account for free. Creating an account and maintaining it is an “inexpensive way to reach large audiences over great distances” (Korda 16). This means that the company may be located in one country but able to reach a customer base across the world because of the help of social media. In addition to reaching consumers across the country, “social media can be customized and tailored to the needs and preferences of different audiences” (Korda 19). In other words, you can not only reach the customers, but also format your business to appeal to the different demographic found in the far away location. To achieve success with social media, company accounts need to be “highly dynamic and flexible and change content and approach often in order to stay entertaining and engaging” (Korda 19).
