When one think of technology, they might think of flying cars, the solution to world hunger, or the basis of achieving peace. The things that make people believe in a better future. So what if that was not the case but rather technology being the ultimate tool of control for the government. The power to make every individual into a robotic, soulless human. Well, in George Orwell novel 1984, we can examine what the world would look like if the government adopted technology to repress civilians. The novel "1984" is set up in a world which is split up into three superstates, Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia. Eastasia covers Japan, Korea, China, and northern India. The main story character is Winston Smith a worker in Oceania's totalitarian government called 'Big Brother.' In the novel's government, four ministries make up 'Big Brother,' Ministries of Truth (law and order), Love (propaganda), Peace (war), and Plenty (rationing). The story is essentially about Smith no longer wanting to be in control of 'Big Brother' so he goes out of his way to rebel behind 'Big Brother' back which leads him into meeting a girl named Julia. At first, Smith did not find Julia to be the type he occasionates with since he at first assumed she was a thought police; the secret police of the superstate Oceania, who discover and punish thoughtcrime, personal and political thoughts unapproved by the Party. Though later on, Julia gave a note to Smith which said "I love you"(Orwell 108). By doing so Smith opinion about Julia changes during the novel, as time went by they started to rebel against the government as much as they could by doing all the thing that was not approved by 'Big Brother.' They both told each other that they would not budge if both of them got caught, that they would love each other till the
