Teenage Eating Disorders
When hearing the words eating disorder, snacking a little too much comes to mind. People may not have to think about the problems people face with, for example, having to worry all the time about how much you eat, or starving yourself to obtain the perfect body isn’t something people should have to go through. But in today’s society we see that it is a problem not just found in adults, but many adolescents come to face. Issues like these are what lead teenagers in to having an eating disorder. Different factors teenagers live or come up through are the the leading cause for a development of an eating disorder. They then should be evaluated and seek help.

Different problems teenagers face socially can pilot them into have an eating disorder. During the time while being a teenager most youth get a feel of how stressful life could really be. The stress from school, work, and sports may overwhelm individuals and it reveals that when life seems the hardest is when people dive in their eating disorder the most. “ During stressful times i ate the least. The only thing i could control was food.” ( Elonne ) In addition to a stressful life, another social factor teens face with is bullying. Many teens deal with the dilemma of cruel harassment of how their body looks from their peers. Insults and torment about body shaming can lead to eating disorders like anorexia to obtain the body they want others to view them with. “Eighth grade was the worst. I was going through a chubby phase and kids were really cruel.” ( Elonne ) Other factors that could lead to an eating disorder is a teenagers own personal life. Family life is a major influence for teenagers to dive into an eating disorder. Parents getting divorced is the most considerable problem as teens have know one to vent their problems too, so they vent to food, which can lead to eating disorders like binge eating for example. For example “Often, bulmics attempt to hide their problem. They may eat normally with other people, but binge and purge in private” ( Hunter ) . For some, asking for help is the hardest part to overcome their problem. The feeling of embarrassment may lock them in a predicament they may never escape and if a person keeps their problem to themself then the more space there is for the eating disorder to thrive. For others, they may push those away who want to help. “It was embarrassing sitting there with friends. In time, i managed to push away most of my friends. Now I realize they must have been scared for me” ( Elonne ) . The coming of the truth of having a problem is better than your own body figuring out there is something wrong with you. But those who are willing to find help, seek medical attention immediately.Finding a doctor will help to bring an individual’s health safely and correctly. But they shouldn't stop there, like said before, eating disorders are more of a mental illness than anything. A person’s unrealistic attitude toward their perception of their body is what leads to deleterious eating habits. The consequences are both physical and emotional. Finding a therapist to help alleviate with psychological detriment is the best help any body can
