Body Image Part A: Society and Body Image (a) Body image refers to how you feel about yourself; this can mean your image or feelings about yourself. (b) Teenagers are persuaded in many ways for their body image, an example is: Advertising • Teenagers see magazines, televisions and social media and compare themselves to what they are seeing and this can cause eating disorders. Social Media • They look at facebook, twitter or instagram and see models, actors and singers. Binge Eating Disorder- this happens when someone has low self-esteem or emotional and eats a very large amount of foods in a small amount of time. Binge eating happens when you feel out of control or feel discomfort and have singe episodes. This disorder affects 1 in 2 million people all around the world. Anorexia- this happens when someone has the fear of being obese and other personal behaviours so they restrict their food intake. Also over exercising and developing problems with medication which results in overdosing. Anorexia one of the three most common eating disorders throughout adolescents in the world. Over-eating- this happens when someone is strained and eats more than the normal food and calories. Over-eating happens when they are stressed, miserable or have private issues so they use food as a calming device. b) These eating disorders are severe for people’s physical and mental well-being. Family and friends of suffers have a challenging and emotional time throughout the eating disorder. These disorders can be affected negatively by social lives in family and friends and even staff members. People that suffer from these diseases undergo low self-esteem, possessed judgments on weight loss or fat and depression that results in being isolated and easily
