Tesla's Accomplishments

1652 Words7 Pages

Nicola Tesla was a revolutionary scientist who had registered at least 300 patents in his lifetime. Few called him an Extra-terrestrial, while others called him a prodigy genius. But did he receive the respect, which he actually deserved?

Many of his patents were lost; some were either burned or are still a mystery. Even then the discoveries he made are benefitting all of us.

Sorting out the huge list, let's discuss ten of his best inventions that changed the world.

Tesla Coil

Invented in 1891, Tesla coil was revolutionary that allows wireless transmission of electricity. It involves two coils (1), basically known as Primary and secondary coils and each coil have its own capacitors that stores energy, just like a battery. These coils …show more content…

Neon Lamps

Though Fluorescent and Neon Lights were not discovered by Tesla, but his contributions helped a lot in the advancement of the technology. It was interesting to see, when nobody worked with cathode rays, which are basically the electrons in a vacuum tube just like neon lights, he came up with some practical applications of this technology.

He found that using Neon Lamps could bring a revolution, so he further experimented the electrons to pass through gases that further developed four different types of lighting. For instance, he used a phosphorescent substance (created by him) that converted black light [6] into visible light and also developed practical applications of such experiments by creating lamps and neon signs. Nicola displayed the Neon Lights in his personal exhibition [7], at the World’s Columbian Exposition, which had a unique design and words. This is how neon lights and signs became popular all over the world.

Invention of induction motor was so influential that even today it is used in devices like Vacuums, Hair dryer, etc.

Teleautomation

Imagine a boat controlled by radio waves! Tesla, with his glorious creative mind, displayed his wizardly invention [9] at the Electrical Exhibition at New York’s Madison square garden, to which he named “Teleautomation”.

With just a small radio transmission control box, he could control a tiny boat over a pool of water and also, it was flashing lights on and off, all this without any single use of a wired connection between the ship and the controller.

Though people, during that period, were aware of radio waves, but Tesla impressed them as always, by using radio waves for running a boat. It was one of the biggest inventions, as it influenced the development of television remotes and other remotes. Also, the boat could be classified as a robot, as this mechanical object was operated without any physical human touch. Thus, Tesla’s boat was referred as Great Grandfather of Drones, as it was a combination of Robotics and Radio
