“Thank You Ma'am” Interpretive Response “Thank You Ma’m” is short story written by Langston Hughes. The main characters are Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones and Roger. Mrs. Jones is a large woman who works at a beauty salon. Mrs. Jones lives in a rooming house, so she doesn’t have a lot of money. Roger is a skinny 14-15 year old boy who tries to steal Mrs. Jones purse.
“Thank you M’am” is a piece of Prose written by Langston Hughes. Roger tries to steal Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones’s purse to get some Blue suede shoes. Instead of taking Roger to the authorities, she shows Roger kindness. The author uses suspense through setting, mystery, and dilemma. Without a doubt, the author uses the setting in the text by, stating that Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones was walking home alone when someone came up behind her and tried to steal her purse.

A big indication that Mrs. Jone hostile is, after, a boy made an attempt to steal her purse and failed, he fell.
The Impact of Generosity Langston Hughes’s short story “Thank you, ma’am” displays the theme of generosity throughout. To begin with, Mrs. Jones did not turn in Roger to the police although he was a thief. She saw him as her son rather than a thief. In an ordinary world, this would not be the case whatsoever. Later, she had dinner with him and demanded he washes his filth off.

In the story, Roger tries to steal a woman's purse but failed and the woman took him back to her house to clean his face off and ended up cooking dinner for him and taught him lessons for in the future and then let him go. The story, “Thank you Ma’am”. The author, Langston Hughes, presents the theme that if poor, people think that it's right to steal. Langston Hughes uses parts of dialogue, parts of actions, and parts of thoughts in the story to create the theme.
As composition two class comes to end, there was a lot of reading throughout the semester. So many great stories and poems that were read from authors like Edgar Allen, Langston Hughes, etc. But nothing came close to “I Too” by Langston Hughes.” I Too” is a poem that holds many great values. In “I Too” there were two work aspects that helped show great value in life, which were the theme and character in the poem.
Langston Hughes is one of the best writers of the 20th Century. “Thank You M’am” is a book about an older woman who gets robbed at night by a boy who wants some shoes. Later, you find out that the woman’s name is Mrs.Jones and she helps the boy (Roger) by feeding him and teaching him life lessons. Also, throughout the book Mrs.Jones is caring, brave, and trusting. One of Mrs. Jones character traits is caring.
