In the beginning of the story Mrs. Jones was nice and gave him a second chance. On page two, Roger asked Mrs. Jones “You gonna take me to jail?” “Not with that face, I would not take you nowhere.” So she had him clean himself up while she cooked him a dinner.
In the story Thank You M’am by Langston Hughes, Mrs.Jones treats Roger almost as if she were his mother, although he tried to steal her pocketbook.
