The Civil Rights Movement inspired racial harmony between blacks and whites in America. The Movement was led by many leaders and activists. Some of the biggest leaders/activists were Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. They both had different philosophies on how to earn freedom and civil rights. The big question is whose philosophy was better in the 1960s. Martin Luther King believed that blacks and whites should join together as one country, but the only way to achieve that was through nonviolence.
During the Civil Rights Movement there was many individual heroes and there was several collective actions. The Civil Rights Movement first started when the abolishment of slavery happen. After slavery was abolished there was a doctrine called Plessy v Ferguson which was known as “separate but equal”. Although colored people were free and had “rights” there was still discrimination towards them.
The civil rights movement was successful of achieving its goals. The civil rights movements wanted to end segregation, desegregate schools, and reverse the separate but equal rule. To achieve these goals the civil rights movement did various things like, court cases, sit-ins, boycotts, non-violent protest, and marches. Some of the court cases that helped the movement reach its goals was, NAACP, brown vs, board. Some sit-ins were, the non-violent protest in which blacks and whites attempt to desegregate lunch counters buy sitting at counters until served.
This became known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Bus companies began to loose tons of money because whites even began to join in. Eventually, buses desegregated so they would start gaining the money they were losing.
The Civil Rights Movement was a variety of activism that Wanted to secure all political and social rights for African Americans in 1946-1968. It had many different approaches from lawsuits, lobbying the federal government, massdirect action, and black power. The high point of the Civil Rights Movement was a march at Washington to get "Freedom and Jobs" for all in 1963. The ending and main point of this helped African Americans better their living conditions, which also helped the U.S. economy, not including discrimination, racism, and segregation. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a big event in the civil right movement in the US. This event changed many laws to protect the equal rights of all people regardless of race. Before the bus boycott there was segregation between races mostly in the south. In public areas such as schools, restrooms, water fountains, and restaurants had separate areas for black people and white people. Also there were areas where black people could not sit and other areas where white people could not sit (source 5).

Kennedy didn’t do much because they wanted to maintain their social status, the sheriffs down South weren’t doing anything, and the mayors down South didn’t do much either. If anything the sheriffs and mayors of the South did everything they could to counterattack the activist groups.
