From the very beginning, the message is clear in (Mark 1:1) stating Jesus is the Messiah as the prophet Isaiah had written.

There are no internal claims to the authorship. It is believed that John Mark of Jerusalem is seen to be the author of the Gospel of Mark, however not signing the original document. "The Gospel According to Mark" was fixated to the script in the 2nd century when the Gospels were collected and there was a need to distinguish Mark's version from the others. Through external evidence Marcan authorship is supported post 70 AD by the testimony of bishop Papias in Asia Minor, who was connected with the disciples, recording that Mark had been Peter’s interpreter.
Accepting John Mark as the author it is believed that the Gospel of Mark is the earliest of the Synoptic Gospels (Mathew, Mark, Luke, John) to be written, dating back to the early 40s to mid 70s.

Although there is no real cohesion of the audience Mark is was writing for, it is believe that through his need to over explain Jewish traditions and translate Aramaic terms to Greek suggests that his readers are outside of Palestine therefore suggesting his writing to be targeted to the Roman believers and Gentiles.
Mark’s gospel was likely written in Rome, under Nero’s reign as many Christians where greatly persecuted. According to Tacitus, Nero accused the Christians of burning down Rome.
